Podcast – #1 ‘I can’t believe it’s not Akira’

Hi Everyone,

Finally after many false starts I have finally got the podcast up and running.

In this first episode Lewis and I review a couple of 80’s staples that adorned many anime VHS collections in the 90’s; Odin – Photon Space Sailor Starlight and Lensman.

Listening back there are few things I would have done differently but seeing this was our first podcast we’re both pretty happy with and we can build on it for future podcasts.

I hope you enjoy the show and we’d love to hear your thoughts on it.

You can email us at ian@retroanimepodcast.com and follow us on twitter @retroanime.

You can find the podcast of PodOmatic, Soundcloud, iTunes and Stitcher by searching for Retro Anime Podcast or listen directly on the player at the top of the post.

Thanks for listening,

Ian

Podcast – The first episode is on its way!!

Welcome to the Retro Anime Podcast.

This is a project I’ve been meaning to get off the ground for years, I long enjoyed listening to various podcasts and wanted to have a go myself. I got into anime over 30 years ago without realising it, enjoying shows like Ulysses 31, Battle of the Planets and Starvengers (which started my lifelong fandom of mecha anime) before realising it was Japanese when I first saw Akira in 1991 when Manga Entertainment released it on VHS.

I’m Orgun on the AnimeUKNews forums and anyone who uses those forums will know I watch a lot of 80’s & 90’s anime. Don’t get me wrong I like a lot of modern anime but I love anime from the past, and as any 40 year old with rose tinted glasses the era that got you into something is always the dearest. That’s why I got my 22 year old step son Lewis to co-host with me. I got him into anime a little over 10 years ago and he watches quite a bit of modern anime so he is the perfect objective foil to my passion for older anime.

I want to focus on anime from the 60’s up to around the mid to late 90’s before the digital era truly began, hence the tag line The Classic, The Obscure, The Forgotten. I will cover some of the more well known or bigger titles but I also want to cover a lot of the anime that no-one talks about anymore or just never gets coverage period.

Each episode we’ll review 2 – 3 titles linked by a particular theme.

Lewis and I recorded the first episode on Sunday and I am currently editing it so I am aiming to have it released by the end of the week.

Thanks for reading,

Ian
